March 03 Glimpses of Being

Excerpts of show notes and quotations

Today’s episode is called Glimpses about the Inner Being and this the first of a series of episodes in which I discuss moments of bliss in our Lives. My intention is that we gather and explore these moments of bliss and investigate into the o the qualities and ingredients so to speak of these experiences.

What is ecstacy?

Ecstacy is a sense of being moved out of ones ordinary self

The word Ecstacy is based upon the Greek word ek and stasis.SLOW

Stasis means standing still, and ek means  out.

The word tranquility is based on the Roman/Latin word transquillus.

There is a Roman expression saying: Medis transquillus in undis, quiet in midst of waves…that is acutually something many of us often strive for, aren’t we.

Here is a poem of Ryokan well loved writer in Japan who lived in the 18th century.

When all thoughts
Are exhausted
I slip into the woods
And gather
A pile of shepherd’s purse.

Like the little stream
Making its way
Through the mossy crevices
I, too, quietly
Turn clear and transparent.

by Ryokan well loved writer in Japan who lived in the 18th century.

Kabir says:

Hang up the swing of love today!
Hang the body and the mind between the arms of the beloved, in the ecstasy of love’s joy:
Bring the tearful streams of the rainy clouds to your eyes, and cover your heart with the shadow of darkness:
Bring your face nearer to his ear, and speak of the deepest longings of your heart.
Kabir says: ‘Listen to me brother! bring the vision of the Beloved in your heart.’

Mihály Csíkszentmihályi

I… have a naive trust in the universe –– that at some level it all makes sense, and we can get glimpses of that sense if we try.”
